Stablehand killed after being hit by car while riding horse

A stablehand employed by Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Danny O'Brien was killed on Monday morning after a horse he was riding was hit by a car at Connewarre.

Victoria Police said a man believed to be in his 30s died at the scene after the car struck his horse at a crossing on Thirteenth Beach Road at 6.45am.

"Our thoughts, prayers and support are with the family of our friend and colleague and all our team. We are completely heartbroken.

"We have had some tough days in this industry, but they are nothing compared to the heartbreak and sadness of today.
