Trainers' association formally opposes carnival shift

The Australian Trainers' Association formally opposed the proposed shift of the Caulfield Cup carnival in a letter to Racing Victoria on Wednesday.

Among the key issues at the heart of its decision, the ATA said "a move of this nature will result in significant disruption to the normal, natural flow of the entire spring carnival", and had the potential to impact races like the Cox Plate.

"After considering the many factors, including the information supplied by RVL [Racing Victoria Limited] and the MRC [Melbourne Racing Club], the president Robbie Griffiths and the elected Victorian committee of the ATA decided to oppose the proposed shift of the Caulfield Cup carnival," the ATA said in a statement.
