Nasty fall at Sale, meeting abandoned

There are concerns for the welfare of apprentice jockey Chris Caserta, who was one of four riders to fall during Race 5 at Sale on Wednesday.

The meeting was indefinitely delayed following the race, a maiden event over 1611 metres, pending the transfer of Caserta by air ambulance to Royal Melbourne Hospital suffering from concussion and rib and back soreness

Jockeys then opted to abandon the meeting due to concerns for the welfare of their colleagues involved in the incident, which occurred 500m from the finish.
