Parks Victoria will begin shooting brumbies after cattleman loses Supreme Court bid

A cattleman embroiled in a legal battle to stop Parks Victoria from shooting feral horses in the Alpine National Park has lost his appeal.

The Supreme Court on Friday afternoon refused Philip Maguire's application for leave to appeal a decision that allows Parks Victoria to send in shooters to cull brumbies under a management plan to protect native flora and fauna.

Mr Maguire lost his initial challenge against Parks Victoria in the Supreme Court last month.

Chief Justice Anne Ferguson told the court the applicant lacked standing; reasons the appeal was refused will be published next week.
