Racing's sorry, sordid saga? It's as if it never happened

So, apparently the racing industry is in crisis. Last week’s 7.30 exposed the horrific, heartless cruelty former racehorses are subjected to and left many feeling sick to the core.

Broadcasting legend Bruce McAvaney said it was "horrifying to watch" and called for all within the industry to "shine a spotlight on whatever might be lurking in the shadows and take action right now".

Commentator Gerard Whateley was equally concerned, describing the racing industry as "a wounded sport with desperate need of leadership". But is the sport really in crisis? It should be. But is it?
