He did no disappoint and produced a world's best dressage score, 30.8 driving horses owned by Tamas Vince and Sarah Garnett. Just like Eventing the dressage percentage is converted in to penalty points, so Boyd;s score corresponds to a dressage percentage of 81.2. "The team were just doing it by themselves" said a delighted Exell. "it sometimes happens like that, but not very often".

Some children were game enough to get a real feeling for riding a Cutting horse. The mechanical horse and cow moved as quickly as the real thing. Thankfully the children were all strapped in.

Australia's Edwina Alexander and 'Cevo Itit du Chateau' sail beautifully over the huge Steamboat Oxer in the middle of the difficult 11acb in the first round of the Individual final. They lowered 11a in the first round and jumped clear in the second to finish the Championships in 13th place on a four round total of 15.38. It is a testimony to the success Edwina has had this year that she would be disappointed with that.

Chris Chugg and 'Vivant' make a big effort over the Steamboat Oxer at 11a. They jumped a very good four penalty first round, just putting a foot in the water, but Vivant looked to be tiring a little by the second round for two down. Chris and Vivant have had such an amazing season, but it has to be remembered that the horse is still quite green at this ultimate level of jumping. As they become more seasoned at the top they are able to reserve their energy. It has been a long show with a lot of jumping at the absolute highest level. Still 21st in the world is not bad for starters.

Riders et al walk the course for the second round of the Individual Final. AS expected Course Designer, Conrad Homfeld, Team Gold Medalist at the Los Angeles Games in 1984, set tracks that were super careful, big and technical. In true North American fashion Homfeld was looking for a horse that could be careful on a forward stride and rideable enough to come back after that to a short distance. It was a masterful effort to create a track that would not damage the slightly less experienced combinations, but tough enough to let the cream rise to the top. Having said that there was a hugely calorific abundance of "cream' in these jumping Championships.
